Ever wonder what goes into making a luxury leather belt? Together we’ll explore the craft of making leather goods including how to cut, sew and work with this medium. You’ll make a custom belt that you can take home for yourself or a loved one. This is a great course for people who have wanted to try their hands at creating your own luxury leather goods but don’t know how to start or are looking to have a better foundation.
This course is for beginners to the craft who want to learn the basics and acquire a good foundation to start. This course is also for crafters with prior sewing or other craft experience who want to learn how to modify and refine their existing skills to produce fine work but in leather.
In this one-day course you will:
- Cut leather- learn how to easily make precise cuts and work with this material.
- Finishing the edges of your belt – to increase the durability and give it a more ‘high-end’ look.
- Set in the buckle- as well as other components of this project and practice working in this medium.
- Assemble the belt- and learn how to set rivets or more advanced techniques in sewing leather.
- Customize the fit of your belt- to go beyond just an off-the-shelf item. Tailor your belt to your size.
BONUS: Add a Free Studio Day
The belt course challenges several skills including sewing, edge finishing, and construction. We cover all of the material you need during the course but the number one request we received from past students was, “I want to have more time.”
Some people work faster and some work slower. You might be more of a beginner or you simply are more meticulous in your craft. You might need more time to finish your hand-sewing or more carefully work through a project detail.
In addition to the one-day course, you’ll get a free day in our studio to finish your project if you need it. This can be scheduled at the end of the course. If you’re from out of town, you are welcome to schedule a 1-hour session with me to review your work and answer any questions that you might have in order to finish your belt.

Free Studio Day: Can be scheduled at the end of the course for those who are in Berkeley. If you’re from out of town, you are welcome to schedule a 1-hour virtual session with me to review your work and ask any questions that you have about your belt.
Berkeley: Take the course in our Berkeley studio on 5th St, just south of the Fourth Street neighborhood. It’s a 5-minute ride (Uber/Lyft) from the nearby North Berkeley BART Station.

A Centrally Located Studio With Easy Access
Our studio is located in West Berkeley, just south of the Fourth Street neighborhood. Berkeley is home to the University of California, the Gourmet Ghetto, many gardens, farmer’s markets, and a diverse collection of vibrant neighborhoods.
Our studio is centrally located in the Bay Area. It’s a 5-minute ride (Uber/Lyft) from the North Berkeley Bart and a 5-minute drive from the Marina Hilton. La Quinta is just an 8-minute walk away.
It’s a 10-minute walk to both the 4th Street and the San Pablo and University shopping and restaurant areas. And we’re just steps away from the closest restaurant, Tomate, and a short walk to the famous Viks and a great cafe.
